Ultimate Guide to Capturing Cinematic Moody Footage

Ultimate Guide to Capturing Cinematic Moody Footage
Another helpful video Gavin, thank you. Slowly learning with your help. What have you done to Chloe’s tattoos though?
I feel she needs to lower the power a notch, the light is not really soft and beautiful it's actually kind of harsh at 5:15. Take a look a Gregory Heisler portraits of Lester Brown and Samdech Preah in 50 Portraits and you'll see what soft like looks like. One thing I like to do is to place the light as close as the subject as possible, barely out of the frame. This way the subject is "wrapped" in the light and it looks softer, contrary to our intuition that the closer the light the harsher (another great teaching of Heisler).
my first extension tube was a kenko 2X multiplier that was so bad optically it was useless.. I removed the glass and it bacame a really great accessory after that!!!
I was pleasantly surprised to see you shooting with Fujifilm!
Very talented.
Is this your garden? Not jealous at all…
It is our garden 👍

What I would give for the the chance for this camera
Nice outfit chloe . i love yr videos Gavin thank you .
I have a silver and white umbrella. The flash into a white umbrella is nice and soft but the silver umbrella a definite no no for me...harsh and multiple shadows
Backlit is for silhouettes, I'd suggest getting better light on the model.
Great video Gavin Chloe and team ! now get in out of the rain 😀💦💦
I have to look at men GQ Magazine and my posing books or web again for myself. Great work by the photographer, and team.
Scatto sempre con i flash per ottenere il risultato lowkey che è il mio stile. se possibile utilizzare la modalità hss, è meglio utilizzarla oppure meglio lavorare fisso al sincroflash e quindi lavorare solamente col diaframma?
wonderful presentation. How could i then isolate the back drop and convert the whole area to a neutral 110 for all colors?
Gavin is the MAN.... I always off forward to his videos...
Awesome Gavin
Great video love the low angle stuff, nice work
Besides the great video, did you move from Olympus to Fuji?
Oooh, love the flash with the sky showing!
I never realised he is based in the UK
Very informative as I'm starting in location portrait photography soon
Seems nothing much here that you can’t do after incorporating your new shoot into Lightroom Classic.
Love it! I have my first on site fashion shoot coming up soon and this knowledge is just what I needed. Now I'm going to practice. Thanks for sharing.
बड़े से बड़े संकट से निकलने का उपाय
Another great video. Tell me, is it normal for English backyards to look, well, "overgrown"?
That light strainer is super cool! Thanks for all your great teaching Gavin!
These are great learning videos!
Gavin Hoey's videos are the Gold Standard of photo tutorials
How are you able to get crisp pictures at stacked people at 1.4 ? I wonder how.
Gavin you are the best
Thank you Steve 😊
Gavin is the Best - I have been watching Gavin's videos for probably 10 years now and he just brings the information out in an easy to understand way and I love his demeanor. Please keep them coming!
Thank you. I'll keep going as long as you keep watching and Adorama will have me around (the last two are sort of connected 😉)
great tips
Since you are using a flash, with that wide of a depth of field, normally you would be having to shoot at 1/250 or 1/200 of a second shutter before loosing sync with your camera. I know you can either shoot in high speed sync and shoot at a high shutter speed, or use an ND filter to cut the light going into the lens. Whenever I shoot with settings similar to yours with the fill flash, it's too bright. Which would you recommend, an ND filter or High Speed Sync?
Both work well once you master the technique, so which ever feels best for you and your flash gear is the way to go. Personally I prefer HSS as it's built right in to the flash / transmitter, so no extra kit needed.
Great photo shoot you 2 are great
Always enjoyable videos and this is exactly what im hoping to do soon. I have two 5:1 diffusers/reflectors and a speedlight. Hoping for earlier golden hour or even into blue
so great to see you outdoors. ive had some great results with strong direct sunlight with no modifiers but i certainly had to work harder to get the results i wanted. Chloe of course steals the show! i love it
Looks good. Glad their very good instructors sharing tips.
Thanks for another informative video, Gavin and Chloe.
Good stuff as always, Gav!
Well done Sir! Great to see you once again.
ALWAYS INSPIRING!!!!
Why are you using fujifilm, once in a while? Thanks for sharing some super tips and tricks.
Hi Kenneth., good question. I've exclusively used Olympus / OM System for about 8 years so it's about time I looked at what else is available (and how it compares). So I borrowed a Sony in March and a Fuji in May.
First.
Awesome video (as usual ;) ) do you mind letting me know which color simulation do you use?
I processed the RAW files to my taste so I guess the colour simulation would be "Me"
Oh come on… can Chloe take a bad picture? Great video Gavin, I always pick up a hint a two and many times something new from Adorama too.
I've given Chloe my camera before and can confirm that yes, Chloe can take a bad photo... when I'm the model 😉
Nice review. Thank you
Great work as usual.
It is Always a great pleasure to see your photography👏Greetings from Rome, Italy👍📸
Hoey always uses a light meter inside. Too bad he didn't go over the light meter while outside!
That sounds like something for another video, this one was aimed at more general / less technical audience.
